James Cloyd, Ph.D.

Dr. James Cloyd received his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Eastern Washington University. He went on to receive his master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from EWU, and then his doctoral degree in Psychology from Brigham Young University.

Dr. Cloyd completed a one-year internship at Deaconess Medical Center as a Behavior Health Manager in Spokane, Washington. He also completed a one-year residency in pain management following his doctoral program.

He has been a consultant at Nexus Paincare since 2005. Dr. Cloyd is a licensed psychologist with the State of Utah and is listed on the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology. He is also a member of the American Psychology Association. Dr. Cloyd has recently accepted a commission in the United States Army Reserves Medical Corp where he works with individuals suffering from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.

Dr. Cloyd cares about the mental well being of all his patients. He is focused on helping people create meaning out of chaos. “Many patients experience an illness as either random or expected, but it is how they make sense of this life changing event that excites me. I am drawn to those patients who can see beyond the illness and continue to live their lives in a manner that is congruent with their values,” said Dr. Cloyd.

When not seeing our patients at Nexus Paincare Dr. Cloyd enjoys mountain biking, working on old motorcycles and reading.
